What’s New in Our Office?

We at Hip Optics pride ourselves in exceptional customer service and staying up-to-date with the latest in technology to give you the comfort of knowing your eyes are healthy and performing well.  The key to effectively managing ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy are early detection and treatment.  In many ocular diseases, changes in the health of your eyes or symptoms of vision loss are not noticeable until significant damage has already occurred.  Because we care so much about the health of your eyes, we strive to detect any conditions before they cause you significant vision loss.  In order to accomplish this, we have purchased two pieces of equipment that will be vital to the early detection and treatment of ocular diseases and conditions.

This first is the Optos Daytona.  It captures up to 200 degrees or 80-85% of the retinal surface in a single image.  The second and newest addition to our practice is our iVue OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography).  This amazing piece of technology can take a cross section of a 6 mm portion of the retina and is extremely helpful in detecting problems below the surface that are not always visible to the human eye.  We liken these tests to the dental x-rays you receive yearly at your dentist’s office that help detect problems underneath the surface.  These are not x-rays, however, so rest easy in knowing they in no ways harm your eyes.

Because we feel these two tests are so important and helpful to ensuring the health of your eyes, we have decided to perform and review them for most all of our patients on a yearly basis when you come in for your comprehensive eye examination.  In most circumstances they are considered screening tests and will not be covered by your vision or medical health plan.  In some cases, if a medical condition exists, we will bill your medical insurance if we are able.  We know the costs of health care can be extremely expensive and we are sensitive to that fact.  With that in mind, we have bundled the cost of the two screening tests at $29.  For the many families that come see us, when two family members pay for the test, a third family member will be at no charge and if three family members pay for the test, the rest of the family will be free.  These rates only apply to immediate family members (parents and minor children).  We are also sensitive to financial hardships so please let us know if that is the case.

Thank you for entrusting us with your eye care and optical needs!  We appreciate you and hope you feel your eyes are under the best care possible when you come in for your eye examinations and for the treatment and management of ocular diseases.
